Whirlpool Tub Shower Surround

Luxury Styles Of Bath Tubs

I always considered the topic of bathtubs to be rather boring until I began to research the market when it was time to remodel our bathroom in our Melbourne home. We had a freestanding bath that was already installed when we bought the house 15 years ago; so the previous owners had some marvelous insight into what was to become a very trendy bathroom item over the next few decades. However, the tub was made from white acrylic, which is the material used to make regular baths, and it had some marks that would not come off.

Combined with the shabby appearance of the rest of the room, it was definitely time for a makeover.

My husband and I wanted a luxury style of bathtub, as we both like to lie back and relax in the bath at the end of a long day. We eventually opted for a whirlpool tub, as my husband frequently suffers with an aching back, and a whirlpool tub shower surround is ideal for soothing away aches and pains and relaxing tense muscles.

If you are looking for a more luxurious style of bathtub, here are three of the options you are available to you:

Freestanding Tubs

Freestanding bathtubs look wonderful and there are numerous innovative designs on the marketplace today, which can be revealed by doing a simple search online. Freestanding tubs come in all shapes and sizes; you can get a two person freestanding tub that allows two people to bathe together, and is also deep enough to submerge the entire body. The great thing about freestanding tubs is you can be very flexible – you can position them anywhere in the bathroom, and if you have a fairly large bathroom, a freestanding bath will give it a spa like look and feel.

Whirlpool Tubs

Whirlpool tubs are not the cheapest option, but they do have massive therapeutic benefits and are should definitely be given high consideration if you suffer with any type of aches and pains, or if you simply love to relax and distress in a hot bath at the end of the day.

A whirlpool tub utilises water jets that are placed on the sides and the base of the tub that have an intense massaging effect on the body. You can find whirlpool tubs in many sizes; most of them big enough to fit at least two people.

We also purchased a whirlpool tub shower surround; this is a wall-like construction with a shower head installed which goes round the whirlpool. The purpose of a whirlpool tub shower surround is that it gives you the option of having a simple shower without the need for a separate shower in the room.

Air Jet Bath Tubs

Like whirlpool tubs, air jet bathtubs provide a soothing and relaxing bath time experience, but instead of giving a massaging effect with water, air is propelled through strategically place jets. One advantage of air jets over water is an air jet tub does not circulate the water, so you can use bath oils and scents like you do in a regular bath – this is not possible with a whirlpool tub as they can clog and damage the system. An air jet tub is also somewhat easier to maintain, and does not require special sanitizing tablets that should be used at least once a month to clean a whirlpool tub.

Most air jet tubs have a one or two HP motor, if possible go for the two horsepower version as it uses less energy and they are more powerful.

The type of tub you eventually go for will depend on your budget, available space, existing decor, and personals needs. However, with anyone of these tubs you will enjoy a luxury bathing experience that cannot be achieved in a standard tub.
